Web Hosting

People who want to have a website, blog etc. will need a web hosting organization which provides an Internet storage facility. Most people will require their services which may be provided as part of a package which will probably at a charge but could be free. Anything relating to a website (files, media etc.) can be uploaded onto one of these servers or data centers so people can access them form their computer.

Many types exist, some provide free hosting but with these types you pay the price of having restricted facilities that usually allow the likes of blogs, email and basic websites to be accessed. For more storage space, better email facilities, sub domains and more you really need top look at paid web hosting plans; this is particularly pertinent for business customers. You can search the Web for many of the paid hosting services but their prices may vary depending on the packages they're offering.

Almost everyone starts out with what is termed ‘shared hosting' where the server is used by many. However, it is often a good idea to see if the company is reliable before this more costly option of a dedicated server is taken. You need to have a registered domain to have a web hosting package otherwise files, websites and other digital information cannot be stored or accessed. The word ‘files' is a generic term that can mean anything from video to audio tracks but be aware that basic packages do not give the most storage if you are intending to upload large files; however, as storage costs come down, companies are increasing this amount of space.

If you have your own domain name, this allows for your own email address without another company (Google for example) having their name as part of the address; this is another benefit of paid web hosting. It always looks like the user is more serious about their internet presence if they have their own email and domain name, it increases credibility. Then you have bandwidth, which refers to how much data is being transferred over the internet, this is something that many people overlook simply because they're enamored with the low prices of hosting packages and don't consider how quickly bandwidth is used up.

If your company can't offer you better bandwidth, then it will be very hard for your users to view your webpage. If you only have a small site that does not have much on it then this probably won't concern you but as soon as audio, video and hi-resolution images are incorporated, it becomes more of a concern. In almost every case it is a wise decision to use a web hosting company and not consider using your own computer as a host due to the risks, especially for those unfamiliar with internet security.
